Mimiyuuuh shares ‘surreal’ moment with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino content creator Mimiyuuuh called it a “surreal” experience after interviewing Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway during a Tokyo press junket, where the actresses also signed a dress he wore as homage to the iconic fashion film.

Mimiyuuuh met the Hollywood stars as part of the global press tour for “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” marking a full-circle experience as a longtime fan of the original film.

Leaning into his fandom, Mimiyuuuh wore a red dress inspired by a fictional James Holt design from the original movie.

“Do you remember this dress? It’s the James Holt original — the one that made you purse your lips. Does this make you purse or does this make you purr?”

Streep responded warmly, telling him, “It looks incredible on you,” after complimenting his outfit and overall look.

The interview also touched on the film’s lasting cultural impact, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community, which Mimiyuuuh described as deeply connected to the story.

“As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ became a beacon of hope, not only for me but for all the girls and the gays,” he said, asking the actresses about their thoughts on that support.

Streep emphasized the community’s influence on the fashion industry.

“There would be no fashion in the world without the LGBTQ community. Some of our greatest designers and so much of the support system in fashion come from that community, and we have nothing but gratitude,” she said.

Hathaway added that the community’s continued embrace of the film helped make a sequel possible.

“I don’t know that we would have a sequel without the support of the LGBTQ community. They’ve embraced this film, quoted it, memed it, and really kept it alive and current over the years, so we owe them so much,” she said.

The tone shifted to lighthearted as Mimiyuuuh brought up fan debates about the original film’s characters, prompting hints about what audiences can expect in the sequel.

“I think everyone’s been a little hard on those characters,” Hathaway said, adding that viewers will see how “certain friendships have endured and deepened and blossomed.”

Streep, meanwhile, teased developments involving Stanley Tucci’s character, saying audiences would find “so many interesting turns” in the new film, but declined to reveal details.

Before ending the interview, Mimiyuuuh asked the actresses to sign her dress — a request they gladly granted.

“That is so fun,” Hathaway said as they signed the garment.

Reflecting afterward, Mimiyuuuh admitted he was still processing the experience.

“You never imagine that you’ll meet the people you watch in movies. The distance feels so far, but somehow the universe finds a way for you to meet in this lifetime. I’m just so grateful,” he said.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is set for theatrical release on April 29, with returning cast members including Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt, alongside new addition Simone Ashley.
