Veteran Filipino performers will take the stage for the “Groovin’ The Greatest Hits” concert on March 27 at 8 p.m. at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Newport World Resorts.
The show features OPM Friends, a group composed of Celeste Legaspi, Leah Navarro, Mitch Valdes, Nanette Inventor, Pat Castillo, Pinky Marquez, Bo Cerrudo and Ding Mercado. The performers are known for staging concerts that revisit popular Original Pilipino Music (OPM) from past decades, including songs such as “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit” and “Umagang Kay Ganda.”
Each member has longstanding ties to the local music scene. Legaspi is associated with songs including “Mamang Sorbetero” and “Gaano Kita Kamahal,” while Navarro is known for “Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito,” “Kailangan Kita” and “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit.”
Castillo first gained recognition as part of the Circus Band and later recorded the song “Aso’t Pusa.” Inventor, who also performed as the comedic character Doña Buding, has been active as a vocalist and interpreter in music competitions.
Valdes founded the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit in 1986 and has worked across music, theater, television and film. Marquez has appeared in musical theater productions including “The Sound of Music” and “Katy! The Musical.” Cerrudo is known for his work as a balladeer, while Mercado previously worked in television in Hong Kong before returning to perform in the Philippines.
Joining the group as a special guest is Nonoy Zuniga, known for songs such as “Doon Lang,” “Kumusta Ka,” “Never Ever Say Goodbye” and “Araw Gabi.”
The concert will focus on OPM hits associated with the performers’ careers. Tickets are available through TicketWorld outlets and the Newport World Resorts box office.
