‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ sets Philippine opening day record for 2026

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” recorded a $372.5 million worldwide debut, including $182.5 million from international markets, according to its distributor, making it the biggest opening of 2026 so far.

In the Philippines, the film posted the year’s highest opening-day gross at P12,474,229, based on figures provided by Universal Pictures Philippines.

The film is the second installment in the screen adaptation of Nintendo’s Super Mario franchise, produced by Universal Pictures, Illumination and Nintendo.

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” follows brothers Mario and Luigi as they respond to a new threat beyond their world. The characters are voiced by Chris Pratt and Charlie Day, respectively.

They are joined by returning and new characters, including Toad voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, Princess Peach by Anya Taylor-Joy and Yoshi by Donald Glover. Jack Black reprises his role as Bowser, while Brie Larson joins the franchise as Rosalina.

The film is currently showing in Philippine cinemas.
