Rising love team Rabin Angeles and Angela Muji are set to headline their first anthology project through “Viva One Originals: RabGel,” a four-part series that will showcase the pair in both joint and solo performances across multiple genres
The anthology premieres May 15 on Viva One, with new episodes streaming weekly.
The project marks the latest collaboration for the tandem following the success of the Wattpad adaptation “Seducing Drake Palma” and the big-screen film “A Werewolf Boy,” which further boosted their popularity among young viewers.
Unlike their previous projects, the anthology will split its focus between the duo’s on-screen chemistry and their individual acting range. Two episodes will feature Angeles and Muji together, while the other two pair them with veteran actors in separate stories.
“We were super excited because after the ‘Werewolf Boy’ film, we have a new series, which is this anthology. I think it’s perfect because we have a project before the second season of ‘Dating Alice,’” Angeles said during a media conference.
Muji described the anthology as an opportunity for growth.
“It’s more educational, to be honest. There are four episodes of different genres, so we’ll try different genres. We also have veteran actors who taught us a lot,” she said.
The first episode, “Ang Rider Kong Hoodlum,” premieres May 15 and reunites RabGel in an action-romance directed by Philip King. The story follows motorcycle taxi rider Marco, played by Angeles, who helps passenger Celine, played by Muji, escape after she witnesses a crime. As assassins pursue them, secrets from Marco’s past begin to emerge
The second episode, “Same Day Error,” streams May 22 and stars Angeles alongside actor-comedian Jerald Napoles in a comedy directed by Rayn Brizuela. Angeles plays an aspiring wedding videographer whose chaotic assignment spirals out of control because of technical problems, difficult clients and unpredictable guests.
Muji, meanwhile, takes on a romantic-comedy role opposite Carlo Aquino in “My CEO Thinks I’m a Robot,” directed by Gino Santos and premiering May 29. She plays Aiko, an AI developer who pretends to be a robot for her company’s emotionally guarded CEO.
The anthology concludes June 5 with “Us, Maybe,” a romantic drama directed by Crisanto B. Aquino, who also directed “Seducing Drake Palma.” The episode follows cancelled influencer Tala, played by Muji, who finds refuge in the province with videographer Michael, portrayed by Angeles. Actor Patrick Reyes joins the cast as Jace, a figure from Tala’s past.
The actors also said the solo episodes challenged them to grow individually while still supporting each other behind the scenes.
While for Angeles, the anthology allows audiences to see more dimensions of the tandem. “They’ll see the different genres that we can do,” he said.
