Ate Vi open to another indie film

IT’S not exactly zero output for Batangas Gov. and Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos as far as making movies is concerned throughout her gubernatorial term.

Interviewed during the screening of her lone indie film “Ekstra” — spanning her six decades in the business — Ate Vi declared that she would stop doing films “due to the many challenges we’re facing today.”

Responding to the needs of her constituents, she explained, has become a more pressing concern than anything else. But wait, this temporary resolve may change if the right project comes along.

“Nag-usap na kami ni direk Jeffrey Jeturian, naghahanap siya ng script para sa akin (Director Jeffrey and I already talked about this, and he’s looking for a script for me). Just in case, I’m open to doing another indie film,” the actress disclosed, realizing her relatively low batting average when it comes to doing mainstream movies.

In stark comparison, there appears to be a deeper sense of fulfillment in doing indie films regardless of the paltry pay, notwithstanding the shorter working hours.

Vilma is to Jeffrey Jeturian what the late Nora Aunor was to Adolf Alix Jr.

ONE thing unique about the solid bond between Quezon City 5th District Councilor Aiko Melendez and artist manager-vlogger Ogie Diaz is that they don’t allow their differing political views to get in the way of their decades-long friendship.

On the professional side, Ogie acts as Aiko’s manager and career strategist. When it comes to Aiko’s duties as an alderman, Ogie sees to it that he doesn’t stick his nose into it unless asked for advice.

Showbiz circles are well aware of their respective political leanings — Aiko is a staunch supporter of Sara Duterte, while Ogie is a loyal ally of Leni Robredo. Surprisingly, this has never been an issue.

While Ogie keeps his hands off Aiko’s political affairs, he remains privy to her immediate plans and future undertakings.

“‘Mama Ogs, gusto kong tapusin ang term ko as councilor’ (Mama Ogs, I plan to finish my term as councilor),” Ogie quoted Aiko as telling him.

There may seem to be a drastic shift in direction, but Ogie was quick to clarify: “No, I don’t mean Aiko is supporting Mike Defensor as their party’s mayoral bet. Whoever was behind the tarpaulins announcing their tandem is spreading fake news!”

Categorically, Ogie branded the brazen misinformation as nothing more than the kitschy handiwork of Aiko’s opponents.

So what does he know about his actress-friend’s political agenda?

Relying on his gut feel, Ogie said: “The answer would largely depend on the surveys. But if I’m going to answer for her, Aiko is eyeing a seat in Congress!”

Already a shoo-in, why not? Aiko might just hold the key to a revitalized city government.
