Wife of the Turkish ambassador to the Philippines, Indri Akyol, celebrated her birthday with close friends, the Beautiful Soul Sisters, over a special lunch at an Indonesian restaurant. Indonesian by birth, she shared that after years of introducing her friends in Manila to Turkish cuisine, she was delighted to finally share the food she grew up with for the occasion.
Indri graciously shared her birthday celebration with Irene Wicklein and Mav Rufino, as well as Elsa Kapunan and this writer, who also celebrate their birthdays around this season. It was heartwarming to witness the friendship among strong and remarkable women gathered around one table, celebrating not only birthdays but one another.
With the Akyols’ tour of duty in the Philippines soon coming to an end, the gathering also carried a bittersweet note. As Indri and her family prepare to return to Türkiye, they leave behind many warm memories and friends who will truly miss them in Manila.
